All In 100 Nights” Press Release :
Community based, voluntary homeless outreach group Altogether Now have been in operation since Tues 4 July 2017. Last week, the group reached its first anniversary. In the period 4 July 2017 to 3 July 2018,100 nights (service times Tues/Wed 8pm to 10pm) the group provided food, hot drinks, soup, clothing, underwear, sleeping bags etc to 2,392 people.
Also within that period the number of homeless people in emergency accommodation has risen by 2,247 people to the current total of 9,846 people (Dept figures May 2018). On average between 70/80 families per month are becoming homeless, government measures are not working and inaction on public or social housing is continuing the over reliance on the private rental sector from where most,if not all these families are coming from for various reasons.
We are holding a public event on Wed 11th July outside St Catherine’s Church Thomas Street, Dublin 8, between 8pm and 9pm to mark our anniversary with the opportunity to raise the constantly increasing figures. Speakers will be Damien Farrell from Altogether Now,Councillor Éilis Ryan WP on behalf of the Campaign for Public Housing.
Our group supporter and historian Mark Jenkins will be hosting a “walking tour” of the rich and interesting history of the Liberties area in our honor, places are limited so those interested would need to register immediately.
We will have some musical entertainment and hot food will be provided to our regular homeless service users and guests at approx 9pm.
Our normal service will be available throughout the event.
NB Please accept this as an invitation. Gina Nicoletti (Event Chair).
