Situated just off the Crumlin Road, here in the Dublin 12 area, the Iveagh Grounds has in the past 5 or so weeks suddenly become a hub of activity with local people. Not your average athletes but a group of senior citizens known as the (CAAN) Community Active Age Network headed by volunteers including local lady Elsie O’Brien. This lively group can be found upstairs in the function rooms Monday to Friday from 10:30am till 12:30pm.
Activities here on offer include Indoor Green Bowls, Line Dancing, Aerobatics, Bingo, Pool, Snooker, all activities also have a complimentary tea, coffee area served by another volunteer Esther McGarry. Despite only been up and running for the past 5 weeks membership has risen to nearly 60. Prime Bling (PB) Your favorite on line digital entertainment guide paid a visit up to them and spoke to some of the service users who had this to say about their club.
Brigid Keenan, who along with her friend Catherine Hughes, starting coming to the club two weeks ago after hearing about it from another friend who they used to work with. Both women agree that its a great place altogether they both felt very welcomed by everyone and both of them enjoy doing the daily activities it gets you out of the house for a couple of hours each day and helps you keep fit by talking part in the activities.
Elsie O’Brien, who help set up this club felt the need to set up some kind of activity group in the area after been undated with requests from local senior citizens, Elsie is no stranger to The Iveagh Grounds, having previously been active within the grounds in the past. Elsie went on to say that the grounds chairperson Paul Kennedy, from (G.A.U) Guinness Athletic Union, along with all the staff have been very helpful to the group and would like to acknowledge them for been very supportive to them.
